2018 Event Archive: CPC 2018 - CPC Magic
The 2018 College Puzzle Challenge asked teams to help prepare the Conjuring Practitioner's Compendium, an annual publication
of the best magical spells. Unfortunately, the book's editors had spent the year spellchecking instead of checking the spells,
so College Puzzle Challenge teams had to step in at the tenth hour to solve the puzzles and check the spells before the book
headed to the printing press for publishing.
Across the country, 1,200 students on 300 teams competed in the Challenge. The winner was determined by which team ended the day with the most spells checked:
- Regular puzzles were worth one spell each.
- Meta-puzzles were worth five spells each.
Pseudodeterministic Generators, from MIT, repeated as champions and took home the grand prize of Surface Books
by solving all the puzzles and meta puzzles first.
